This is the first blog post i've written in my entire life... and like all things else, it will probably become easier with some practice... but here goes
Mono.Xna was first started back in the days of Microsoft Xna 1.0, but as everybody interested knows, the development stopped after a while when it became apparent that large portions of the code needed to be rewritten. The reason for the rewrite was that someone had commited code that violated the first rule of the project README and all of it needed to be removed, and it was. Sadly, it prooved to be a big blow for the project, and people lost interest.
I first found the Mono.Xna project around February this year after installing Ubuntu on my home workstation after getting fed up with Windows Vista. I commited my first contribution to the project a couple of months later after recieving admin rights from one of the old admins. Some time has gone by now, and in this time others have joined the project, and togehter we have managed to get the project up and running again to a point where 2d graphics and input is supported.
I have high hopes for this project. That being said, there are a number of things that could seriously affect how things will go in the future. For one thing, Mono.Xna is highly dependent on the success of and continued support for Microsoft's Xna platform. Not that this is something to worry about at the present time due to the popularity of the platform. A challenge we'll need to overcome for certain is how to make essentially a DirectX managed wrapper to work with other backends like SDL and OpenGL. For now though, there's still plenty of infrastructural components that have higher prioritization like content reading/writing and sound support, so I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
In the future this blog will hopefully contain more valuable information, but for now this is it.... ;)
I would like to finish off by thanking all the people responsible for getting this web page and domain up and running. Hopefully we can put it to good use...
